KEPALA BATAS, 23 July (The Star) -- Emysofiyan Jaafar Sidek’s right arm was paralysed following a motorcycle accident in 2003 but he knows he has to work to support himself.
“I hope to find a lighter job now, perhaps as an office boy or supervisor,” said the 26-year-old former mechanic from Mengkuang Mak Sulong in Bukit Mertajam.
Emysofiyan was among several people with a physical disability who used the Electronic Labour Exchange (ELX) – an online employment registration system – at the Penang Labour Department's Job Carnival on Saturday.
Those who click on http://jcs.mohr.gov.my/oku/ will be able to find a job clearing system for the disabled.
Under the system, employers can advertise jobs available for the disabled who, on their part, can also register for jobs they are looking for.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn, in his speech read out by Perak Labour Department director K. Sritharen, said employers keen on hiring disabled persons should register their vacancies online.
“Those in the manufacturing/services industries should employ more disabled persons in their workforce.
“The disabled who are keen on starting their own businesses can apply for a grant under the Disabled People’s Business Assistance scheme,” he said.
Dr Fong said the Labour Department had registered about 93,000 jobseekers and about 42,000 job vacancies since January this year.
He said the jobseekers included ex-servicemen, retirees and the disabled.
Dr Fong also said that after Bukit Bintang Plaza in Kuala Lumpur, job vacancy electronic kiosks would soon be set up at Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur and Queensbay Mall in Penang. |
