E-Guru to help Year One pupils with languages. |

PUTRAJAYA, 12 Feb (The Star) -- An electronic study aide aimed at helping Year One primary pupils improve their language proficiency would be introduced to certain schools as a pilot project.
Education Ministry Deputy director-general (Schools) Datuk Noor Rezan Bapoo Hashim said E-Guru was a locally-developed electronic reader to improve pupils’ skills in five languages – English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Tamil and Arabic.
“Pupils need only point at a word in their book, and the electronic reader will give the right pronunciation of the word,” she said in an interview.
For example, a Year One pupil who is learning Mathematics would be able to place the cursor on a number or word in the textbook and hear it being said.
“By using the E-Guru, we hope the pupils will be able to continually practise at home what they have learnt in school,” she said.
She said one of the main reasons why pupils faced problems in the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in English or J-QAF (Jawi, Quran, Arabic and Fardhu Ain) was their inability to grasp the languages concerned.
Noor Rezan said the pilot project would involve 15 Year One pupils in six schools – SK Subang Jaya, SK Taman Kepong, SK Seri Anggerik, SK Bandar Tun Razak (2), SJKC Lick Hung and SJKT Tun Sambanthan.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein will launch the project at SJKC Lick Hung in Subang Jaya today. |
