PETALING JAYA, 6 Nov (The Star) -- Information technology students at University Tun Abdul Razak (Unitar) can soon be certified to counter hackers.
Those taking the Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) and Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) at Unitar may graduate with the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification from the E-Commerce Consultants (EC) International Council after completing their course.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Idris Haron said with increasingly heavy reliance on web applications and Internet transactions, the world would inevitably experience threats and sabotage.
“Cybercrime is fast becoming synonymous with Internet use,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Hacker Halted 2008 Conference yesterday.
The conference attracted about 400 participants.
Later during a press conference, he said it was is important to educate potential hackers on the devastation they can wreck in the cyber world.
He added that with the help of engineering and enforcement, it was hoped there would be better security in information and communication technology in the country.
Also present at the press conference was EC Council president Sanjay Bavisi, who said Unitar was the first higher education institution in Malaysia to incorporate CEH into their courses.
He said the CEH certification was also accredited by the National Security Agency of the United States Government. |
