I ARRIVED at 2.45pm and submitted my form and documents at the Immigration Department Counter 1. This was processed and I was given a number to wait for verification. After five minutes, I was at Counter 2 for the scanning of the left and right thumbprints and also an imprint with ink of the right thumb onto the form.
After another short wait, I was summoned to pay the RM300 fees and was given a receipt. I was told to "come back at 4.30pm to collect the new passport".
I could hardly believe this and asked again, "this afternoon at 4.30"? "Yes" was the answer.
I left the office at 3pm — it took only 15 minutes to complete my visit. I returned at 4.15pm and the woman officer at Counter 1 recognised me and called me to collect the new passport. It took 1½ hours to process and issue the new passport. I thanked the three women officers for the excellent work and also filled in a form to compliment the department.
To me, a visit to the same office, after five years, showed not only a tremendous improvement in efficiency but also smiling service. Congratulations to this department in Taiping. |
